Wills for Introverts

Need a Will but really don’t want to call a lawyer? Good news. You don’t have to.

At Hemmings Legal, we believe making your Will should feel straightforward, comfortable and manageable. If you prefer email to phone calls, like to know what is going to happen before an appointment, or would rather think about your answers in your own time, you are very welcome here.

You can start online, provide information at your own pace and communicate with our legal team in the way that works best for you. Minimal small talk required.

Estate planning without the awkward phone call

Some people love picking up the phone. Some people would rather reorganise the entire pantry. We understand.

You do not need to telephone Hemmings Legal just to get started. You can email us, book online and provide much of the information we need in writing.

What does a more comfortable legal experience actually look like?

  • No phone call required to get started. You can contact us by email or book online.
  • Information in advance. We can tell you the kinds of questions we are likely to ask so you have time to think.
  • Written-first communication. If you prefer email, that is completely fine.
  • No pressure to answer immediately. Important estate planning decisions can take time.
  • Predictable appointments. We explain what we will cover and what happens next.
  • No expectation of small talk. You can simply come in, discuss what matters and get the job done.
  • Plain English. We explain legal concepts without expecting you to understand legal terminology.
  • Bring notes. In fact, we encourage it.
  • You can say “I don’t know yet.” We can identify what needs more thought.
  • Calm signing appointments. We guide you through what each document is and where to sign.

Comfortable does not mean casual about the law. It means taking the legal work seriously while removing as much unnecessary stress from the process as we can.

Before your appointment

We can help you prepare with a list of information that may be useful, including full names, addresses and dates of birth for people you may wish to appoint or include in your documents.

You can also begin thinking about executors, beneficiaries, specific gifts, children and grandchildren, guardians, pets, superannuation, Financial Powers of Attorney, Medical Treatment Decision Makers and funeral wishes.

You do not need to have every answer before your appointment. These are simply starting points for the conversation.

During your appointment

You do not need a speech prepared. We guide the discussion. If you need a question repeated, ask. If you need time to think, take it. If you have written notes, use them. If you do not understand something, we explain it another way.

After your appointment

You can review your documents and ask questions before everything is finalised. If email is the easiest way for you to communicate, keep emailing us.

Is this only for introverts?

Not at all. “Wills for Introverts” is our slightly tongue-in-cheek way of describing an estate planning process that many people prefer.

  • you dislike making phone calls
  • you prefer written communication
  • you like having time to consider questions before answering
  • unfamiliar appointments make you uncomfortable
  • you are busy and do not want endless back-and-forth
  • you simply like things organised, predictable and straightforward

You do not need to know what to say

You may be wondering who to appoint as executor, what happens if a child dies before you, whether grandchildren inherit instead, what happens to superannuation, or whether you should make Powers of Attorney as well.

You do not need to solve those questions before coming to us. We will work through them with you.

A law firm for people who would rather not call a law firm

You have probably been meaning to organise your Will for a while. You do not need another reason to put it off.

Start online, tell us what you need in your own time and let our legal team guide you through the rest.

Big life decisions, handled with care.
